We are recruiting for a dynamic and motivated individual to run an established, trauma informed counselling service for adults at our premises in North Shields Town Centre, which offers therapeutic services for primary carers – of any gender – whose children attend Acorns. This is an exciting opportunity to continue to develop a successful, flexible, responsive service that enhances our service offers for families, in line with the ongoing development of our ‘whole family’ approach.

The post holder will deliver counselling sessions to clients aged 18+ affected by trauma related to their experiences of domestic abuse, as well as support a small team of volunteer and student counsellors to deliver a quality service. You will have experience of managing teams in a service setting, and have a diploma in counselling or equivalent, ideally with at least two years’ post-qualification experience with substantial proven practice hours, and be skilled at working with clients who have experienced trauma. We offer person centred therapy however we welcome applications from counsellors/therapists who are also trained in other/additional therapeutic interventions such as CBT and EMDR which would add flexibility and choice to our offer.

This service currently runs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays however there may be some flexibility around this if needed.

Outreach Counsellor/Play Therapist - Northumberland

Contract Type: Full-time, Part-time, Contract

Salary: From £25,000.00 per year
Location: Homeworking with access to our office premises - work will take place in schools and other community venues

Are you a qualified, registered play therapist (or other relevant/similar therapeutic specialism, e.g. children's counselling/art therapy) looking for a new challenge?

We offer a range of therapeutic and support services for children, young people and families affected by domestic violence and abuse and we are looking for an enthusiastic, organised individual to work on an outreach basis within our Northumberland Recovery Team, delivering our award winning programme in schools and children’s centres, and other community venues throughout Northumberland, supporting children aged from 4-18 to recover from trauma.

You will have a diploma in play therapy, counselling or equivalent, ideally at least 2 years post qualification experience with substantial proven practice hours and be skilled in working therapeutically with children and young people. It is desirable for you to be a driver with your own vehicle due to the flexible nature of the post and the travelling requirements

(Please note that you will not be required to cover the whole of the county. Cases will be allocated effectively to ensure appropriate travel times, based on where you live)

Sessional Children's Counsellor/Play Therapists - Northumberland

Part-time hours: 37 per week

Salary: From £40.00 per hour

We currently have an exciting opportunity for established counsellors/play therapists throughout Northumberland to become our partners in offering trauma informed counselling to the hardest to reach young people.

If you would be interested in delivering counselling/play therapy to children and young people aged 4-18 years who have been affected by domestic abuse, as part of a wider provision to reach out to families in the most rural/hard to reach areas, then please get in touch for an initial conversation. You will have a diploma in counselling, play therapy or equivalent, ideally at least 2 years post qualification experience with substantial proven practice hours and be skilled in working therapeutically with children and young people 4-18 years, as well as the appropriate registrations e.g. BACP/PTUK.

We offer person centred therapy however we welcome expressions of interest from practitioners who are trained in additional therapeutic interventions which may add value to our offer to children and young people.
